There are some important questions to ask yourself when considering assisted living:

Has keeping up with your property and yard become too much to handle?
Are there times when you feel unsafe bathing/showering on your own?
Has your social life been affected due to not being able to meet with your friends like you once did?
Have you had trouble with frequent falling or getting around your house safely?
Has the idea of preparing meals every day become too much of a burden?
Have your different bills and financial obligations been slipping or forgotten?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions, it might be time to consider assisted living.

      Frequently Asked Questions

What Are The Different Housing Options Available for Seniors Who Need Assistance?
Seniors all have different types of needs, so there isn’t one living arrangement that will fit everyone’s needs. Thankfully, Assisted Living facilities offer a variety of living options to fit every senior’s needs and desires.
      Independent Living:
Independent Living is a great option for those seniors who require little or no assistance and are tired of the daily chores of owning a house and everything it entails. Some facilities like Grenada gardens offer both sectors of assisted and independent living. These seniors have the luxury of still feeling independent while enjoying all the resort-like accommodations we offer at Grenada Gardens.
      Assisted Living:
Assisted living offers a combination of housing, individualized supportive services, and health-related care designed to cater to the individualized needs of seniors who require assistance with activities of daily living. Seniors living in our assisted living sector will be cared for by specially trained caregivers. These caregivers are trained to help residents who need memory care as well, supporting them through their aging journey.
      Nursing Home:
Nursing homes have a special license through their state’s public health department. These facilities are 24-hour facilities providing skilled nursing care for chronic and short-term rehab that require a higher level of care. These patients require more assistance than a retirement home can offer and need assistance/skilled care for most or all their daily activities.
How Much Does Assisted Living Cost in California & What Are The Different Payment Options Available?

Assisted living can vary in cost depending on the location and level of care needed. In California, Assisted Living is almost all private pay. It is not covered by Medicare or Medicaid unless your county has adopted the assisted living wavier program, which is designed for low-income seniors.

How Long Is A Typical Assisted Living Contract?
Unlike other living options, most assisted living communities do not require a long-term agreement prior to moving in. California’s assisted living facilities only require a month-to-month commitment with a 30-day notice before leaving. This gives seniors the right to make their own decisions at any given time. These communities also offer respite care options which is a great resource for those who don’t need full-time assistance but can come on an as-needed basis.
Do Assisted Living Communities Have Nurses on Staff?

Assisted living communities are considered non-medical facilities and are not required to have nurses, CNAs, or any other medical personnel on staff. Instead, Assisted living communities have trained caregivers and medication technicians. ALFs work closely with the community’s doctors and hospitals for those residents who require professional healthcare providers.

How Can We Tour The Community & Meet With An Admissions Specialist?

For the most personalized experience, please call us at (530) 630-7100 and schedule a tour or meeting with someone from our admissions/marketing team. If you prefer to just stop in when the time is right for you, tour times are between 9 am-5 pm Monday through Friday, or weekend tours are available on an appointment basis.

How Can Caregivers Deal With The Guilt of Moving Their Loved One Into An Assisted Living Community?

Guilt is a common feeling to experience when moving an elderly patient to one of these communities. Caregivers need to keep in mind the best option for both loved ones and themselves. Being a primary caregiver can get in the way of one’s personal life, which can affect the well-being of the caregiver. Assisted living communities also offer a lot of amenities/services that one just can’t get at home. Increased care will be provided with experienced and trained professionals, helping put loves one’s minds at ease. A move that better matches individualized needs will ensure that you are doing your best to provide your loved one with the best care possible 24/7.

How Big Are The Rooms? Can Couples Live Together?

We provide several different room options when it comes to an assisted living community. Grenada Gardens offers single studio apartments and offers layouts for companion living options. Our companion living program pairs your loved ones with a like-minded individual to share a space with. This option can help people feel less lonely when leaving the familiar environment of home, and can go a long way to help with financial burden.
